At the heart of StoreVault products is a robust operating system that is based on Data ONTAP®, the highly reliable and data-center proven operating system that powers NetApp enterprise storage solutions.

Tailored for SMB environments, Data ONTAP StoreVault Edition provides key NetApp technologies that provide advanced data and system protection. These capabilities include Snapshot technology that enables instant backup and restore; easy on-the-fly capacity expansion; RAID-DP which provides protection from concurrent disk drive failures, the WAFL® (Write Anywhere File Layout) file system that provides availability, flexibility and high performance, integrated NVRAM or Non-Volatile memory for data protection; and seamless integration into existing Windows and/or UNIX installations.

The underlying NetApp technology in Data ONTAP StoreVault Edition provides enterprise-class data and system protection while StoreVault Manager provides a friendly, efficient interface to manage storage in an SMB environment. All management tasks are performed exclusively from within StoreVault Manager. IT administrators who prefer the NetApp enterprise family of management tools, such as FilerView, Data Fabric Manager and Command Line Interface (CLI) can start with the FAS 200 product line. These enterprise tools are not supported with the StoreVault line, as they are more suitable for administrators with enterprise storage expertise.

StoreVault Manager
StoreVault Manager is the simple way to manage initial set-up and day-to-day storage tasks. With a familiar Windowsâ look-and-feel, the learning curve is virtually non-existent.

StoreVault Manager simplifies the management of your storage, reducing the complexity of everyday tasks while maintaining full control. StoreVault Manager provides tools for initial set-up and common storage management tasks such as volume management, capacity allocation, snapshot scheduling, setting permissions and updating settings. But despite the sophistication of the underlying Data ONTAP SVE operating environment, storage management expertise is not required and no new learning is needed as everything is accomplished via a familiar and intuitive Windows environment.

A graphical representation of the storage environment makes it easy for administrators to see what is happening. StoreVault Manager provides feedback to the administrator on events that could potentially affect normal operation. E-mail notification can be set up to provide alerts about events such as storage quotas thresholds being crossed, or potential hardware issues. AutoSupport can be enabled to provide remote diagnostics. The elegant simplicity and logical arrangement of the GUI make the StoreVault S500 easy to use for non-storage specialists.

SnapRestore™ StoreVault Edition
SnapRestore™ StoreVault Edition provides the capability to instantaneously restore files, directories or even an entire volume regardless of size. Because it is based on Snapshot technology, a file, directory or volume can be recovered to a particular point in time; and because the security attributes are retained with the Snapshot image, users can even recover their own lost files.

Today there are many threats to critical business data, files can be overwritten, deleted or become corrupted. With traditional data recovery methods, recovery can take hours or even days. Using NetApp Snapshot technology, SnapRestore StoreVault Edition provides a way to almost instantaneously restore individual files, a directory or even a multi-terabyte file system, and because no data is copied, recovery time is the same. In contrast, alternative storage solutions copy all of the data and require much more time and disk storage for the backup-and-restore operations.

SnapRestore StoreVault Edition is tailored to the needs of small to medium-sized businesses and provides a simple interface to enable IT generalists to quickly recover data.
